Technology Adoption: Past, Present and Future
2006 SIGADIT (DIGIT)
Workshop
A pre-ICIS workshop of people interested in information technology
adoption and diffusion will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2006 in Milwaukee, WI, USA. The workshop will include paper roundtables, panel
discussions and tutorials.
Faculty members and doctoral students are
encouraged to attend and submit papers for roundtable discussion. The
deadline for submission of papers is Friday, September 15, 2006.
Notification of acceptance or rejection will be made in early November.
See the CFP below for more details.
For the past two years, DIGIT has had a mix of paper presentations and
roundtables. At the roundtables, 8-10 researchers have read a paper
before the workshop and have participated in a detailed discussion with
the authors on the papers contribution, potential and future. This year,
we have decided to allocate more time to the roundtables. Authors have
found these very valuable in developing their work further.
We will also have three interesting panel/tutorial discussions:
-
Henry Lucas, Burt Swanson and Bob Zmud will participate in a panel focused on
"The Story of Technology Adoption Research"
-
Lars Mathiasson (Georgia State University) will lead a session on the
(potential) use of Action Research in Technology Adoption Research
-
Abhijit Gopal (The University of Western Ontario) will facilitate a
discussion on the use of theoretical perspectives that are novel the
post-adoption literature
It is not necessary to submit a paper in order to attend DIGIT but
attendees must be willing to participate in the roundtables. Lunch and
refreshments will be provided to attendees.
In order to foster the workshop atmosphere that has developed in previous
meetings, registration will again be limited to about 40 people. You can
register for DIGIT during the regular ICIS registration process.

---Call for Papers---
DIGIT was formed twenty years ago and the SIGADIT community has
contributed significantly to the growth of the Information Systems
field. To continue to shape the adoption community of research, this
year we are moving from a theme focused on certain aspects of technology
adoption research and calling for papers that consider the past, present
and future of technology adoption research. Potential submissions might
be critical of the state of the field or build new contributions on the
existing literature. Our goal is to stimulate discussion around methods
that have been used and those that have been less frequently applied as
well as theoretical lenses that illuminate aspects that have been
studied less frequently.
Given this broad scope, it is imperative that papers focus on the
phenomena of the technology adoption process within organizations. The
IT artifact and the effect of its adoption on individuals and
organization should be central to any paper. In the interest of
discussing the most current research in this area, working papers are
encouraged as well as more complete papers. Papers dealing with the
adoption, diffusion and/or infusion of information technology at the
individual, work group, or organizational level are invited.
While our theme is one that considers the past, present and future of
the field, papers that are thorough reviews of the literature or
frameworks of past work are not in and of themselves suitable. Rather,
review of past work should only be used to propose integrative
perspectives that provide a sound foundation for future research.
Empirical papers that address important topics that have been
under-represented in the literature are also highly suitable and
encouraged.
All submissions will be blind reviewed. Papers should not have been
published previously in a proceedings or journal, nor be under review
elsewhere, but may be submitted elsewhere after the DIGIT meeting. At
least one author will register and attend the workshop to present the
paper if the work is accepted.
*** Accepted papers of sufficient quality will be considered for fast-tracking at The DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems. ***
